Once there was a wise old king who ruled over a vast kingdom. He was known for his fairness, wisdom, and kindness towards his subjects. One day, the king decided to test his people's honesty and loyalty.
He placed a large rock in the middle of the main road and hid nearby to see what would happen. As the people passed by, some of them looked at the rock and walked around it. Others simply ignored it and continued on their way. But one young man stopped and examined the rock closely. He found a small bag of coins under it.
The young man looked around but saw no one who could have dropped it. He waited by the rock for some time, hoping that the owner would come back. But no one came, so he decided to take the bag of coins to the king.
When he arrived at the palace, he presented the bag of coins to the king and told him about the rock. The king was impressed by the young man's honesty and rewarded him with a large sum of money and a position in his court.
Years passed, and the young man became an important advisor to the king. One day, the king asked him, "Why did you bring the bag of coins to me? You could have easily kept it for yourself."
The young man replied, "My king, I was raised to be honest and loyal. I knew that the bag of coins did not belong to me, and it was my duty to return it to its rightful owner. I did not do it for the reward, but because it was the right thing to do."
The king was pleased with the young man's answer and said, "You have shown me that honesty and loyalty are the foundation of a strong and just society. You will continue to serve as my advisor, and your example will inspire others to do the same."
The moral of the story is that honesty and loyalty are essential qualities in a person's character. By being honest and loyal, we not only gain the respect of others but also contribute to a fair and just society.
